RAM Jewelry Set (Georgia Innocence Project Edition)

I had a surprisingly emotional and wonderfully educational summer interning at the Georgia Innocence Project (GIP).

Like any other small, non-profit organization, GIP is only able to afford hand-me-down computers that barely trudged along. I managed to salvage a couple RAM from one of the more ancient models that finally croaked and used the RAM to make a jewelry set.

This set is available for purchase at the GIP 10th anniversary celebration where a silent auction will be held to raise (much needed) funds. Each piece was once used to help free the wrongfully prosecuted. So if you would like a slice of justice to adorn your wrist, ear lobes, or clavicle, visit the link above to purchase a ticket to the silent auction.

You can also help to free the innocent by donating HERE or simply "like" the GIP facebook page!

The Making:
Borrowed a dremel and a drill from a friend, who also did the cutting/drilling

Cutting the pieces on a cardboard box
Due to the amount of metal on the board, it was very hard to cut straight. Only four pieces came out presentable. I think a lot of the credit should go to a friend who cut up and drill holes in the pieces but he preferred to remain anonymous.
Had my friend punch the hole by hand

Washed and cleaned

Slave Leia Crochet Doll

As a member of the pasty skinned basement-dwellers, I felt obligated to crochet a slave Leia doll. More details and progress pictures below. I roughly followed tutorials and instructions on By Hook, By Hand.
Her head can be rotated.

Her legs are stuffed with pipe cleaners so they  can hold a slight bend

The metal part of her bikini is painted on with glitter fabric paint (which takes hours to dry and tends to cake up on my fingers)

Tali Crochet Doll - Mass Effect

I just finished playing Mass Effect (the first one) and Tali'Zorah nar Rayya is definitely my favorite romantic interest. As a result, I made a Tali doll over the weekend. Most of her clothes are hot glued on since my hand hurt too much after crocheting the doll so fast to hold a needle straight. Progress pictures on the bottom.
Made her a mini boot knife

Here are some progress pictures
Head! And the start of the body (it starts at the feet)
The legs and bodies are crocheted in one piece
Attaching head to body. I used bamboo skewers to support the head

Arms attached! I used a piece of yarn for the "tube" on her arm
Waiting for the paint to dry

Most of the straps are made from felt

1st Kyudo Class

I started kyudo (Japanese archery) today! The dojo is very beautiful, the people are easy going and the style is very traditional. It felt almost like a dance class!
Carbon fiber bows. Sensei has bamboo ones too

I like the different prints on the grip of the bow

Arrows and a quiver
28 meters to target

A senior student shooting

Emma loves pets while we get ready for class

Bento #26

First day of summer internship today! I am super excited to meet friends and new people!

Today's Bento includes:
Teal (yay more food dyes!) onigiri stuffed with sardines with a light dust of furikake
Diced apples

I'm trying not to bring too much food as I'm on a don't-stuff-my-face-in-front-of-strangers-on-the-first-day diet...

Close up of the onigiri!

Drinking my Greens

I don't think it surprises anyone that I hate vegetables. I got a blender and turned this:
Banana, Carrot, Spinach, Broccoli and Celery

into this:

It tastes horrible. It's not bland at all but it does taste like I'm drinking green (not red!) vegetable. I'm going to try it again with more bananas and more milk...blah!

Crochet Bunny

I started this out following a pattern but kept on losing count because I was crocheting it during down time at work. The ears have wires in them to keep shape.

This is where I stopped following a pattern

Crochet Jiji the kitty from Kiki's Delivery Service

Made this for a friend! Jiji comes with a removable bow!

Crochet baby Tyranid

Robert requested a cute Zerg...err...Tyranid. It was a lot of fun :)

I was going to crochet his armor but it's hard to get sharp edges in crochet....
The felt had leathery impressions on it

He looks so mean!
